The “Smart Cities” are those based on sustainable urban development. They are capable to responde on their own way to the basic needs.  Institutions, businesses and inhabitants are economically, operationally, socially and environmentally adequate.

They are based on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Providing high quality public services, safety, productivity, competitiveness, innovation, entrepreneurship, participation, training and training.

Smart cities have the characteristic of being multidimensional and multifaceted, in transport, energy, education, health, waste, surveillance, economy; and in the development, use of new technologies for its growth.

This year between September 11 and 13, the city of Puebla, Mexico, will host the Smart City Expo LATAM Congress. A platform that brings together representatives of  cities, institutions, civil society organizations and companies; with the aim of identifying common challenges and present solutions oriented to a better urban planning. This year’s event plans to receive 12 thousand visitors, 400 from Mexico and Latin America.

The topics of the congress are sustainable and resilient territories; open governments; entrepreneurship and economic development; Co-cities: Participatory and collaborative partnerships and digital transformation.

In the Smart City Expo LATAM Congress, the Smart City Awards of LATAM will be held. With the purpose celebrate the most innovative transformation projects in Latin America. Those that have a favorable impact on inclusion, equity, security, sustainability and participation to improve the quality of life of citizens.
